Former Mill, Rishton
BEK have recently been commissioned to carry out site investigation at a Former Mill located in Rishton, Blackburn. Following a review of a preliminary risk assessment produced for the site, an investigation was designed to provide an assessment of the potential risks associated with contamination and shallow coal mining at the site. The investigation was also designed to provide information with respect to foundation design. The works included the drilling of a series of window sample and open rotary boreholes at the site.
Considering the distinct land uses of the areas within the mill, the window sample investigation was designed to provide targeted information for each of these areas with particular attention being given to areas where previous contaminative uses had been carried out (including former tank farms and wash down areas at the site).
The site investigation is now complete and groundwater and ground gas monitoring is currently ongoing. A quantitative assessment of the site will be provided in due course.
