Soil gases may arise from a number of sources including landfill sites, made ground, organic-rich strata and contaminated soils.
BEK has a great deal of experience in providing a proactive assessment of the risks from ground gas. This can include a quantitative assessment based on a site-specific conceptual site model to a qualitative assessment including the installation of gas monitoring probes in boreholes and a period of monitoring gas concentrations, flow rates, atmospheric conditions etc. The assessment of the risks follows the BS8485 and CIRIA 665 guidance documents.
If potential risks have been identified then BEK can provide the design of gas protection details as well as the supervision and validation of gas mitigation measures to satisfy the requirements of project stakeholders and regulators.
