Ground gas can arise from several sources including landfill sites, made ground, organic-rich strata and worked coal measures. Build-up of landfill gas in confined spaces can lead to asphyxiation and/or explosion. Therefore, assessment of risks from ground gas forms a vital part of the contaminated land process.
At BEK, we can install and monitor ground gas wells to establish risks from ground gas. This helps to support ground gas risk assessments which are completed in accordance with BS8485 and CIRIA 665 guidance documents.
If potential risks have been identified, then BEK can provide the design of gas protection details as part of a gas verification plan and we can also supervise and validate the implementation of gas mitigation measures to satisfy the requirements of project stakeholders and regulators.
